Forward on the wings of research and development

Vahanen is actively involved in research and development. We want to be among the first to develop more effective solutions for the world of real estate, construction and housing. We also work in close co-operation with universities of applied sciences and scientific institutions by offering students client-oriented subject matter for thesis work. Approximately 4% of our turnover goes to development every year. 

Toward sustainable solutions

At present, we are developing new building solutions as part of the Tekes Sustainable Community programme (KEKO Sustainable renovation project) and are involved in the EU-funded Sustainable Refurbishment of Building Facades and External Walls (SUSREF) project. In the KEKO sustainable renovation project we develop our services and operating methods to more effectively meet the challenges posed by climate change. In the SUSREF project we are working on new, sustainable construction-compliant concepts, structures and products for the renovation of facades and external walls. In accordance with our mission, our goal is to develop a built environment that is safe, healthy and ecologically balanced.

Innovations from past years

In 2008, the Finnish housing development project IKE-PAP was concluded. The PAP (Service models for resident-based improvement) project began with the Ministry of the Environment's IKE (Human and real estate lifecycles) research programme in 2005. The project objective was to seek practical solutions and approaches for resident-based renovation in co-operation with various actors in the construction sector. The PutkiremonttiPlus service model was created based on the work done by Vahanen Oy.

Vahanen is also known as a developer of renovation and quality control methods related to concrete structures. Climate change poses constant challenges to development as Finland needs to make preparations for continued deviations in stress conditions. As a result, conventional methods will not necessarily be effective anymore so we must remain on the cutting edge of technological development.
