Environmental permitting and impact assessments

We have expertise in making environmental permit applications in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act (4.2.2000/86) and Decree (18.2.2000/169), and we can assist in the applicant at all stages of the application process. We focus on smooth cooperation with the licensing authority and the applicant which furthers and speeds up decision-making.

Within environmental permitting, we have expertise in:

  • making permit applications, plans and reviews
  • negotiating with the authorities and with stakeholders
  • carrying out licence-related monitoring, sampling, reviews, planning and annual reporting
  • water and dredging permit applications

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

EIA or environmental impact assessment refers to a procedure of mapping the direct and indirect effects of planned activities on, for example, human health, soil, community structure, availability of natural resources, landscape or cultural environment.

EIA is done on all projects that may have significant environmental impacts. The EIA process does not involve making decisions on the project or solving issues related to licensing, but for large projects an environmental permit cannot be obtained before an EIA is completed.

We carry out environmental impact assessment and planning in cooperation with authorities, emphasising interaction with local citizens. In assessing environmental impacts and reviewing alternatives, we seek means and measures for preventing and minimising detrimental effects. A successful EIA process paves the way for a successful project.
