Eerika Hyry, 29, Project Manager
Suitable challenges
Eerika Hyry initially started at Vahanen as a summer intern but, like many others, ended up staying permanently. Thanks to the employer’s flexibility, Eerika could continue her studies while working. “It is great to be able to apply your studies to real life. I know I will be given more demanding responsibilities as soon as I am ready for them,” Eerika says.
Eerika is a coordinator for the ReplumbingPlus service and a project manager for large-scale pipeline renovation projects. “The most rewarding thing is being able to solve conflicts between different parties in a way that makes everyone happy,” she says.
In her dissertation Eerika looked at how residential house renovations could be made more efficient and resident-driven through data modelling. In her pilot project, she tested her theories in practice. “At Vahanen, research isn’t left to gather dust on a shelf; instead, outcomes are applied in practice,” she explains.
“I like that it is a family business with an open atmosphere, where you don’t have to fear making mistakes. They trust young people here and give you suitably sized challenges. I have realised that I don’t have to know everything in advance; you learn while you work.”
