Hannu Hirvensalo, 24, Project Engineer
Field work broadened views on reconstruction
Hannu Hirvensalo studies Property Management at Aalto University School of Science and Technology, while working part-time at Vahanen. “New strategic property management service concepts have lately been developed here at Vahanen. This autumn, I will examine the suitability of these services for the Russian market in my dissertation. Until now, Vahanen’s Russian operations have mainly focused on new construction, but we are looking to expand the service portfolio there.”
“I have worked at Vahanen 1–2 days per week, while studying, since the autumn of 2005. I had only been studying for a year when I entered the construction materials lab. Field work really broadened my views on reconstruction. It is worth boldly contacting companies in the field already at the early stages of your studies. My major at the School of Science and Technology is property management. It has been a great bonus to learn about construction engineering in practice; it has given me good foundations for my field of interest.”
“I hope that my dissertation will lay a ground for an international career. Vahanen has units in Bucharest, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tallinn and Sochi. After finishing my dissertation I want to increase my business and project management competence.”
