From Thailand to Vahanen’s architecture unit

Piyapong Kerdmoh (known to his friends as “Bee”) graduated as an architect in 2006 from a Thai university. Encouraged by positive experiences of Finland, he came to Helsinki to look for a job. Bee had previously done a four-month internship in Finland as a part of his studies.

Bee has adapted well to working in Finland and likes it here. He is very pleased with Vahanen’s flexible working hours, which means that he can combine his work with further studies in architecture at the Aalto University School of Science and Technology. These studies will provide him with advanced skills in the field and knowledge of Finnish practices.

One of the things Bee values in the Finnish labour market is the flat hierarchy of which Vahanen is a good example. “Here you are welcome to express your views openly, and they will be taken into account,” Bee says. Bee enjoys the company of his co-workers at the office and during his time off.

Bee works in Vahanen’s architecture unit, which has become one of Finland’s largest departments of architecture. He is an assistant architect at the moment. Bee’s studies have increased his understanding of Finnish building practices and helped him to manage complex projects. Studying has also provided him with more responsibility and independent tasks.

“In the future, I hope to tackle various different projects in order to learn more and have more responsibility,” Bee reckons.
