The city of Jyväskylä together with YIT Rakennus Oy organised a public architectural competition for the high rise buildings of Äijälänranta.

The RIL Award 2011 for Helsinki Music Centre 19.12.2011
The most significant award in Finnish construction industry, the Finnish Association for Civil Engineers (RIL) Award was given to Helsinki Music Centre. For Vahanen Group, the Helsinki Music Centre is the second largest project so far. It is not the largest by area or volume, but by design work. Measured by that criteria – design work – it is also one of the most diversified and challenging projects that have been conducted by Vahanen Group.

Atte Leppänen appointed Business Area Director of Structural Engineering 1.12.2011
M.Sc. Tech. Atte Leppänen has been appointed Business Area Director of Structural Engineering and member of management group starting from 1st of December 2011. Previously Leppänen worked as Head of Unit in Building & Design at Ramboll Finland in Tampere. He has also worked as Project Manager and Specialist in structural engineering projects.

RIL Award for Music Centre brought recognition to Tero Aaltonen and Vahanen Oy 25.11.2011
The most significant award in Finnish construction industry, the Finnish Association for Civil Engineers (RIL) Award was given to Helsinki Music Centre. In relation to the award RIL gave special recognition of the structural engineering of Music Centre to Vahanen Group’s Director of Technology Tero Aaltonen and Vahanen Oy.

Shopping centre Stella designed by Innovarch Architects opened in Mikkeli 17.11.2011
Located in the city centre of Mikkeli, shopping centre Stella opened its doors on 11/11/2011 at 11.11a.m. Stella was designed by Innovarch Architects, which is part of the Vahanen Group, and consists of 25000 square metres of commercial space and restaurants in three storeys.

Petri Ortju, Managing Director of Vahanen Tampere Oy, awarded with a title of Certified Property Manager 3.11.2011
The certification of Petri Ortju is recognition of his skills and expertise in the property management branch which further strengthens Vahanen’s solid property management know-how in Tampere region. The certificate is presented on Thursday 3rd of November at The Annual Convention of Property Investment Prospects at Aulanko, Finland.

Building Engineer, M.Sc. Petri Lento has been appointed Head of Vahanen Oy’s Hämeenlinna Unit starting from 1st of November 2011. Mr. Lento’s experience is centred on exporting, developing and managing comprehensive design services in Russia and other international markets.

Facade renovation by Vahanen awarded first place in the Facade Renovation 2011 competition 25.10.2011
Vahanen’s facade renovation project of Vattuniemenkatu 4 in Helsinki achieved first place in the Facade Renovation of the Year 2011 competition. The judges praised especially the careful preparations of the project, where the equality of partners in the housing company was well taken into consideration.

Innovarch Architects, Eduarch Oy, RTC Vahanen Turku Oy and Fundatec Oy were awarded with a Menestyjät ('achiever') certificates after thriving in the assessment conducted by Kauppalehti Oy's research and analysis unit, Balance Consulting. These companies, which are part of the Vahanen Group, have been classified as achiever companies on the basis of their economic performances.

Innovarch Architects’ office in Lahti grew by six specialists as architects Tuula Isokallio, Tarja Mäkinen, Pirkko Pulkkinen and Carola Toikander-Kirsi joined the team. Also the former owner of Arc Designers Oy, architect Juha Laurila and secretary Kirsti Niemelä were added to the group. Altogether Vahanen Group has now 11 specialists working in Lahti region.

Länsimetro one of the largest projects of Fundatec 26.9.2011
Fundatec Oy operates in the Länsimetro (the western metro extension) project as part of a consulting group oriented in rock engineering (geotechnics). Fundatec, which is part of Vahanen Group, is responsible for the consulting group’s technical project management, metro tunnels on the Helsinki side and Matinkylä metro station and 2km track section in Espoo.

Structural engineering know-how from Vahanen to Wuxi Opera House in China 15.6.2011
An opera house designed by Finnish architect agency PES-Arkkitehdit is rising to the city of Wuxi, 150 km north-west from Shanghai. The focal point of the ambitious design is the roof, which is formed from eight steel wings, the largest of them covering 3000 square meters.

Vahanen executes the architectural design of four new day care centres in Porvoo 15.6.2011
The associated company of Vahanen Group, Eduarch Oy, has been chosen to execute the architectural design of four new day care centre facilities in Porvoo in partnership with YIT. The project is carried out within the framework of so called ‘life span model’, where the constructor is responsible in addition to construction planning and building also for e.g. finance, energy efficiency, maintenance and repairing of the property during the following two decades.
